Welcome
to the Home page of the United States Probation Office for the Southern
District of Georgia. We have staffed offices in Savannah, Augusta,
Brunswick, and Statesboro Georgia. We also have offices in Dublin
and Waycross Georgia when trial is in session.
The Probation Office is responsible for several areas of the federal criminal process. 1. Pretrial Services - Provides supervision of persons who have been charged with federal crimes. Officers from this section make recommendations of whether the defendant should be released on Bond or remanded to custody until and during the trial process. 2. Presentence Unit - Provides the Court with an independant investigation of the defendant's background, crimes committed, and how the crime to which he/she has been convicted will be applied with the sentencing guidelines. 3. Supervision Unit - Provides post-conviction supervision of offenders who have been ordered by the court to have supervision following their federal sentence. These officers also supervise cases where a probationary sentence has been ordered in lieu of incarceration. Officers in the supervision unit also act as the official agent for the U.S. Parole Commission. |
